Villaputzu is a village in the province of Cagliari from which it is just 65 Km. It has got 5000 inhabitants and is located in the Sarrabus area.

The village makes part of the Ogliastra diocese and is located in a short alluvial plain created by the Flumedosa river.

Villaputzu is considered by many to be the native land of launeddas: in fact, it boasts among its inhabitants the best masters of the past and still today, it boasts many young but famous player.

The village have also an interesting culinary heritage with its “Culirgionis”, “Malloreddus”, meat and fish roasts and its typical desserts such as “Pardulas” ,“Pabassinas” or the Sardinian macaroons (amaretti). A special mention has to be deserved to the sweet citrus very popular everywhere in Sardinia.

In October, there are two important town festivals: “Santa Vittoria” (2nd Sunday) and “San Narciso” (4th Sunday) with a procession supported by the rhythm of launeddas. There are improvisators poetry contests, traditional square dances and firework displays.
